In contemporary society, there is as much focus on the individual as there is on the collective, but how much of that individuality is actually supporting concentration, investigation and deep thought?
The works in this exhibition provide four different artists observing, using and altering human gesture. Each artist presents a work depicting people looking in specific directions, whether at the missing (Baldessari), at some form of ‘entertainment’ (Opie), another person (Pistoletto) or the ‘world’ (Segal). How much does the viewer identify with each action, how much does the viewer respond differently depending upon what is being depicted? These are only two of the myriad questions that occur on account of the juxtapositions in this exhibition.
